Our word of the day is “Multinational Corporation” A multinational corporation is a business that has its facilities and other assets in at least one country other than its home country. Such companies have offices and/or factories in different countries and usually have a centralized head office where they co-ordinate global management. Generally, any company or group that derives a quarter of its revenue from operations outside of its home country is considered a multinational corporation. There are four categories of multinational corporations: (1) a multinational, decentralized corporation with strong home country presence, (2) a global, centralized corporation that acquires cost advantage through centralized production wherever cheaper resources are available, (3) an international company that builds on the parent corporation's technology or R&D, or (4) a transnational enterprise that combines the previous three approaches. According to UN data, some 35,000 companies have direct investment in foreign countries, and the largest 100 of them control about 40 percent of world trade. In economic terms, a firm’s advantages in establishing a multinational corporation include both vertical and horizontal economies of scale and an increased market share. Although cultural barriers can create unpredictable obstacles as companies establish offices and production plants around the world, a firm’s technical expertise, experienced personnel, and proven strategies usually can be transferred from country to country. Critics of the multinational corporation usually view it as an economic and, often, political means of foreign domination. By Barry Norman, Investors Trading Academy

Copper is one of the most used metal by man; it is an essential element for building construction, power generation and transmission, electronic product manufacturing, and the production of industrial machinery and transportation vehicles. There is no evidence that copper even can be absorbed through the skin. But if it were, this could actually lead to copper poisoning, which may actually be more likely than beneficial effects, that is why it is also s vital to the health of all living things (humans, plants, animals, and microorganisms). In humans, copper is essential to the proper functioning of organs and metabolic processes. The human body has complex homeostatic mechanisms which attempt to ensure a constant supply of available copper, while eliminating excess copper whenever this occurs. Unfortunately there is also a downside to the production of copper in many Third World countries where you find a widespread of fraud, negligence and abuse. Global Witness has documented that government officials in many of the world's most impoverished countries turn a blind eye on harsh labor conditions in the artisanal mines, the complete absence of safety precautions and the failure of both the government and companies to take responsibility for the health and safety of tens of thousands of artisanal miners. In many developing countries, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Republic of the Congo and some other Third and Second World countries minors you will usually find that governments of those countries do not place any value to the safety precautions of their safety precautions, this leads to huge risks of accidents and deaths in the mines and very often nothing gets investigated. Yes, the big influx of foreign firms or multinationals pouring into those countries presents opportunities for the political elite to enrich themselves. leaving their citizens in misery, but it is the mentality that needs to change, it is the paradigm of those societies that need to change; progress comes with a price. In much of the very impoverished countries there is a growing amount of resentment because the vast profits resulting from copper and any other metal flow out of their countries without them seeing any change in their financial situation. That is why natural resources can be a blessing and a curse to a developing country. Governments in those countries do not believe that universal rights are values that their societies can implement, unconsciously they are not interested in adopting any form of human rights.
